HR Pesty’s is a family owned bar and restaurant located in Waite Park. It is near the bustling West side of St. Cloud but it is a far cry from the many chain restaurants found there. It is a local bar with long time employees that “know your name”and an eclectic group of customers ranging from blue collar workers to business owners. Pesty’s is serving up great bar fare, good drinks and a relaxed comfortable feel of a neighborhood bar.

History

The building that HR Pesty’s is located in began as Debber’s Hardware in 1921 and eventually closed during the the Great Depression. In 1947 it was purchased by Loren and Esther Daniel and they opened Lornie’s Bar. After that it switched ownership a couple times and  was also operated as a bar known as Woody’s.

In 1990, Doug and Nancy Heinen purchased the building and opened HR Pesty’s Saloon and Eatery. After a 24 year career with Viking Coca-Cola, Doug followed his dream and family tradition. Doug’s grandfather owned and operated Lipski’s Place in Holdingford which was eventually sold to his own parents and the name changed to Andy’s Bar and Del’s Cafe. Ironically, the purchase of HR Pesty’s happened exactly 50 years to the date of his grandfather’s purchase.

HR Pesty’s Saloon and Eatery has evolved over time and is known by most patrons as simply – Pesty’s. The ownership has also changed hands. Doug and Nancy’s son, Sam has owned and operated the establishment since 2004 after managing it for years.

You can’t just go to Pesty’s one time.  It will draw you in and keep you coming back for more.
